A studio classic, captured in detail

From intimate expression to commanding projection Grand Piano Y7 is based on a Yamaha C7, an instrument prized for its balance of power, tonal clarity and responsive touch. Prepared and tuned by a master technician, it was captured at Fonoprint Studios in Bologna using IK’s robot-assisted sampling technology. DPA cardioid microphones capture the piano up close, while a pair of Coles ribbon microphones in a Blumlein configuration captures the depth and ambience of the room. Round Robin sampling and detailed key and pedal noise help every performance feel natural and alive.

TECH
About

Extremely versatile, its powerful projection and tonal clarity can command concert halls, while its nuanced expressiveness and responsive touch are perfect for recording studios.

After being prepared and tuned by a master, the Yamaha C7 was chromatically sampled using IK’s proprietary robot-assisted technology for precise and consistent sound capture. We used Round Robin samples for natural variation and realism while chromatically capturing the key and pedal noise for an authentic playing experience.

The Grand Piano Y7 was recorded at the legendary Fonoprint Studios in Bologna, Italy. Located within the walls of a 15th-century convent, the studio has been iconic for producing pop, progressive, cinematic and classical music since the ’90s. Artists like Bocelli and Morricone have worked there, and this piano serves as the studio’s resident instrument. The recording involved DPA cardioid microphones for close miking and two beautiful Coles ribbon microphones in the Blumlein technique, ensuring a high-quality and captivating sound.

The result is a breathtaking, hyper-realistic virtual piano. Combined with the innovative cinematic effects found only in Pianoverse, the Grand Piano Y7 offers no limit to the style you can play or the mood you can set. It promises a new sonic adventure every time.
