How can I tell if my iRig BlueBoard is up-to-date?

This firmware update available in your IK Product Manager and User Area* allows the iRig BlueBoard to sync with your Mac or iOS device without the need of the previous 'iRig BlueBoard' "bridge" app. Now, when you turn on the iRig BlueBoard, it will be seen as a MIDI controller on compatible devices. To check if your unit is up-to-date, power up your device, and hold the A, B, or C pads. If any of these illuminate on power up, you are updated.

Please keep in mind, on iOS, a compatible MIDI over Bluetooth app, like Loopy HD, or GarageBand will be required. The iRig BlueBoard will not connect to the iOS Settings > Bluetooth menu. This is not a designed function of the iRig BlueBoard firmware update. Click here for help connecting.

Once updated, there will be 3 modes of the BlueBoard, which you can set easily upon powering on of the BlueBoard.

Power-up Mode Selection:

  • Powering up the BB holding switch "A" will make it boot in proprietary mode for use with the iRig BlueBoard app.
  • Powering up the BB holding switch "B" will make it boot in MIDI over Bluetooth mode 1. This mode will send MIDI Note On/Off Message from C3 - F3 in a momentary fashion.
  • Powering up the BB holding switch "C" will make it boot in MIDI over Bluetooth mode 2. This mode will send MIDI CC Message from 20 - 23 in a momentary fashion.

During power-up, if A, B, or C are held, they will illuminate to give confirmation that the button has been successfully pressed. Every time the iRig BlueBoard is powered on, the button corresponding to the last used mode lights up for one second. Powering up without holding any button will boot into the last used mode.

For full information on the iRig BlueBoard modes, check out your User Manual here. This will also be stored in the My Products section of your IK account and IK Product Manager. If you need extra help getting started after this FAQ, please contact our support team here.

**The external inputs will send MIDI CC 12 - 13 when in MIDI over Bluetooth modes.
