Getting the best sound with the Clubhouse app
The Clubhouse app is a great platform for casual, drop-in audio conversations—with friends and other interesting people around the world.
While the app is not yet released, we've found the best experience is with our 3.5mm TRRS connected iRig devices. Check out the list below for examples. These devices will work great with newer iOS devices via the Apple 3.5mm Headset to Lightning adapter and we've even had user reports of this adapter allows charging during use.
Check out this video walk-through guide on getting started with iRig 2.
Digital devices are not fully supported by Clubhouse when in a room with more then one speaker. While we do hope this changes in the future, for now, there are a couple of tricks to get you going if you do own a digital iRig.
Before we get into it, we need to elaborate on what we mean by digital iRig devices. These are iRig devices which connect to your mobile device via it's digital connection and not the headphone port. Check out the list below for examples.
*Direct Monitoring is supported for these devices. To monitor the input signal with interfaces which do not support this feature, please follow these steps.
When using any digital device, make sure to follow the steps here. These steps will allow your digital iRig to send audio to Clubhouse when using "Speaker" mode with a single Presenter in a room.
If you have a mobile device with a headset/headphone port (3.5mm), connecting a headset or headphones will engage "Music" mode. If you follow the steps here first, you will be able to perform as well as add additional speakers. Monitoring from your headphones, which are connected to your mobile device.
Additional notes: For digital devices which do not support Direct Monitoring, the steps below can help you hear your signal while using the Clubhouse app.
- Install Mic Room LE (free) from App Store
- Launch Mic Room LE
- Open Settings window and turn “Background Audio” ON.
- Adjust the input volume if needed.
If you follow the above steps, you will not need to launch iRig Recorder 3 with
the steps shown here. Instead, you can try the resolution below which should help get you working.
- Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to launch Control Center.
- Press firmly (iPhone) or long press (iPad) in the audio playback section of Control Center. It will display whatever you're playing on your iPhone at the moment. If you just tap it, it'll just open the app associated with what's playing.
- Tap the AirPlay button on the top right of the new window. It looks like a triangle with rings around it.
- Tap the device (e.g. iRig Stream) to which you'd like to play the audio.
