Trusting what you hear is critical to creating the perfect mix — one that translates to other playback systems as you intend. Working in different environments though, even those that are treated acoustically, can alter what you hear and negatively impact your mix decisions.
Fortunately, iLoud Precision monitors offer built-in acoustic self-calibration to take the room out of the equation in minutes. Plus they travel well, especially Precision 5s, as mixing engineer and producer Kent Hooper explains. Have a look.
With these speakers, I can show up to the session a little early, do a calibration and save it on my computer. Now I do that with all the studios I work with.
I can throw them in a bag and take them wherever I need to be.
The most important thing when you're at a studio is knowing and trusting what you hear. The thing about these speakers that intrigued me was that they had room correction built-in.
I like to have speakers I know, but more importantly that compensate for the rooms I might not know.
When you pop the room correction in, it's like a veil is lifted and you go, okay that's what's going on!
