A sonic sanctuary of crushing metal tones from a metal virtuoso

High-gain tones is what I've been into my whole life. With TONEX, I captured the amps from my collection, the amps I've used on recording sessions, and my live rigs from the past 15 years to my most recent ones.
I also took the opportunity to capture my favorite stomp boxes and all the signature overdrive pedals I've released so far. Where I go, TONEX goes.

Gus G.

The Gus G. Tone Asylum gives instant access to a crushing set of metal tones seamlessly transitioning from heavy metal to power metal to neoclassical metal sounds. This signature TONEX collection delivers exact recreations of the artist’s favorite amps and settings, used for everything from his band Firewind to studio work to touring with the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne. Gus G. meticulously dialed each Tone Model in this collection personally to reflect the fiery tones of his live performances and studio albums.

A Pro’s Private Collection

The Gus G. Tone Asylum features 7 amps and 6 pedals from Gus’s personal collection — each meticulously captured to his exact live and studio specs. This collection delivers the ultimate metal tone arsenal from searing lead tones based on his favorite amps, like the Blackstar® HT5 Metal and Blackstar® St. James 6L6, to the brutal gain of his Blackstar® Series 200 Blackfire signature amp.

Several classic metal amps based on legendary models like the ENGL® Powerball®, 5150 III, MESA Engineering® TRIPLE RECTIFIER®, and Marshall® JCM 2000 TSL60 — are also included. They are all fine-tuned for articulation, speed and power.

Gus G. uses a range of overdrive and distortion pedals to shape his signature sound. For this collection, he carefully captured his favorites as individual stomps to use with real or modeled amps and in front of his main amps to create complex captures that enhance attack, saturation and sustain. Six pedals are featured based on a J. Rockett® Archer, Crazy Tube Circuits® Speed Demon by Gus G., BBE® Green Screamer Signature, BOSS® SD-1, Blackstar® Dept. 10 and a custom-built Crazy Tube Circuits® Fire & Fury.

Amps

Blackstar® Blackfire 200 (Signature Amp)

Blackstar® Blackfire 200 (Signature Amp)

“This was my signature amp back in 2012. We only produced 250 of them. They're based on Blackstar's Series One 200 amp, but my version has more high gain. I toured the world with it when I was with Ozzy Osbourne. It was the core of my sound at that time, and I wanted to capture it for the first time.”

  Fury Lead
  The Black Flame
Blackstar® HT5

Blackstar® HT5

“This is the first amp that Blackstar sent me at home to check out when I first got to work with them. A small 5-watt amp that sounds huge and delivers high-quality clean and crunch tones.”

  Metal Hot Tone n. 5
Blackstar® St. James 6L6

Blackstar® St. James 6L6

“This is the newest addition to my Blackstar arsenal. I've used it on tour for the past couple of years, and it's been my main go-to amp. I captured it together with an Archer overdrive pedal, as that's my main rhythm and lead tone. I've also included captures using the amp’s IR output, as sometimes we blend those tones together with the miked tones.”

  Burning 6L6
  Clean Spirit
  Holy Sword
  Rig Of Metal
  Tubes Of Power
  Divine Shield
EVH® 5150 III

EVH® 5150 III

“This is probably my favorite lunchbox amp. I've used both the 15-watt and the 50-watt versions on recordings over the past 10 years — it’s all over my albums with Firewind and my solo albums as well. On the 50-watt model, we captured tones with different mic positions, so you can blend these in stereo and create huge tones!”

  Facing The Light
  The Lunch Box
  Richer Cleaner
  Full Lead
  Greener Cleaner
  Sharper Lead
  Facing The Dark
  4 Digits Metal Lead
MESA/Boogie® Triple Rectifier

MESA Engineering® TRIPLE RECTIFIER®

“Rectifiers sound amazing, but honestly, I've used them very little in my career. A friend had this amp, and I borrowed it recently. I thought it'd be a good addition to the Tone Asylum since this is an early Rectifier.”

  On The Clean Side
  Rect-o-Fire
ENGL® Powerball

ENGL® Powerball

“I've always loved ENGL amps and have recorded a bunch of albums with the Savage and Powerball. They have a certain bite that I love and are great for heavy rhythm tones.”

  Power Rhythm
Marshall® JCM 2000 TSL60

Marshall® JCM 2000 TSL60

“Pure Marshall power with searing high-gain. A '90s classic I’ve had for years and captured my favorite settings using a Blackstar Artisan 4x12 cab. The amp has a killer articulate tone that cuts through the mix with a tight, focused low-end.”

  Martial Law

Pedals

J. Rockett® Archer

J. Rockett® Archer

“This is probably my favorite overdrive pedal. I use it in front of my Blackstar amp, and it tightens up the sound without changing it or adding that unwanted 'dirt.”

Blackstar® Dept. 10

Blackstar® Dept. 10

“A very cool tube distortion pedal. I even used it once on stage at a festival.”

  Blues Rock
BBE® G Screamer (Signature Pedal)

BBE® G Screamer (Signature Pedal)

“This is a capture of my first signature pedal, released in 2011 by BBE. It was based on their Green Screamer, but we cleaned up the circuit a bit. It's no longer available, so I wanted to capture it and immortalize it for the Tone Asylum.”

BOSS® SD-1

BOSS® SD-1

“This was my first overdrive pedal, bought as a kid. I always used an overdrive in front of amps to tighten up the sound and give me a thicker tone. This is the pedal I experimented with, and since I still have it in great condition, I captured it — hopefully, together with its magic.”

Speed Demon (Signature Pedal)

Crazy Tube Circuits® Speed Demon (Signature Pedal)

“I collaborated with Crazy Tube Circuits on this overdrive pedal in 2019. We only made 300 of them, so it was a super limited edition. I used it a lot on my tours in 2019, and it's a great pedal. You can use it in front of any amp for blues tones or to enhance your metal lead tones.”

Crazy Tube Circuits® Fire & Fury (Prototype Pedal)

Crazy Tube Circuits® Fire & Fury (Prototype Pedal)

“This is a mystery pedal. It's a prototype I played around with — a dual distortion pedal I was thinking of self-releasing but never went for it. I always thought it sounded great, so I did some captures with an IR pedal.”
